In a remarkable display of international cooperation and commitment to environmental sustainability, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan attended the opening ceremony of "EXPO Doha - 2023" during his state visit to Qatar. The prestigious event, hosted in the heart of the Middle East, drew leaders from across the globe, including Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and esteemed heads of state and government from Iraq, Yemen, and other nations.
"EXPO Doha," heralded as the first-ever global "green" exhibition in the region, kicked off under the inspiring theme, "Green desert, better environment." This grand showcase of sustainable innovation will run until March of the following year.
The inauguration of this monumental event underscored the world's collective commitment to environmental conservation and the pursuit of sustainable practices. Participants were offered an exclusive opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies and groundbreaking solutions in the realm of environmental protection, ecosystem development, "smart" agriculture, novel crop cultivation, and innovative horticultural concepts.
Uzbekistan, a country with a rich agricultural heritage and an ever-growing focus on sustainable farming practices, took center stage at the exhibition. The national pavilion of Uzbekistan was a testament to the nation's dedication to environmental responsibility and technological advancement. The pavilion proudly showcased the latest advancements in intensive farming and animal husbandry, robust environmental management strategies, and presentations highlighting Uzbekistan's vibrant horticulture and food industries.
Green Desert Concept
Approximately one-third of the Earth's land area is at risk of desertification, which endangers the well-being of millions of individuals relying on the services provided by arid ecosystems worldwide. This problem is escalating, with an additional 12 mn hectares of land becoming susceptible to desertification each year on a global scale.
As these lands become increasingly parched, they lose their capacity to sustain the same population levels as before. Consequently, a significant migration of rural residents to urban centers ensues, creating not only environmental concerns but also economic difficulties. Therefore the Green Desert idea involves employing advanced technology and innovation in contemporary farming while promoting greater environmental consciousness to achieve long-term sustainability.
