Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has pledged to combat criminal gangs amid a surge in violence in the country. The situation has become so serious that authorities are considering involving the military in maintaining order.
Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Sweden stated that: "We will track down these gangs and defeat them. We will hold them accountable. If they are Swedish citizens, they should face very long prison sentences, and if they are not Swedish citizens, they should be deported."
According to Euronews, two powerful explosions occurred in residential buildings in central Sweden, injuring at least three people. These incidents are linked to the rivalry between criminal groups involved in drug and arms trafficking.
In recent times, explosions and shootouts have become increasingly frequent in Sweden. It has the highest rate of street killings per capita in the EU. Experts note that firearms-related deaths in Sweden are six times higher than in all other Scandinavian countries combined.
The Prime Minister attributes the rise in crime to "political naivety and ignorance," as well as "irresponsible immigration policies and unsuccessful integration." Consequently, the government is now reviewing its migration policy and criminal legislation.
