Ilkhom Norkulov, the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan met with Kim Hee-Sang, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, on August 24 to discuss the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Climate Change between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on June 1, 2023, and the parties plan to establish a Uzbek-Korean Committee for Climate Change Cooperation to implement future plans within the agreement's framework.
The parties also agreed to organize and hold a joint meeting with the participation of representatives of the Republic of Korea's Ambassador in Uzbekistan, Kim Hee-Sang, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The Republic of Korea has made significant efforts toward sustainability in recent years. The country has implemented policies and initiatives to promote renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve waste management. One of the critical areas of focus for the country is renewable energy, as it has set a target of generating 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. To achieve this goal, the Republic of Korea has invested heavily in solar and wind power, with plans to increase its solar capacity to 30 GW and its wind capacity to 16.5 GW by 2030.
