Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and VP of China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation Zhao Zhengxiang discussed joint energy projects in Astana as Kazakhstan plans to complete the unification of its energy system and adopt a Concept of Development of Kazakhstan's Electric Power System to satisfy the country's demand for electricity fully.
Kazakhstan is modernizing its existing power stations, with plans to commission over 1,700MWt by 2027.
Energy Unit No. 1 at Ekibastuz GRES-1 will be restored this year, providing an additional 500MWt for the upcoming fall and winter.
Kazakhstan plans to construct additional thermal power plants in Kokshetau and Semey cities. The National Power Grid is being modernized, and the project to reinforce the Western Energy Zone will be completed this year, while the project to strengthen the Southern Energy Zone is still in progress.

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said.
Meanwhile, CMC intends to expand its presence in Kazakhstan's energy projects with the support of local contractors and suppliers, which will contribute to the country's economy. China National Machinery, Import & Export Corporation, is ready to work on mutually beneficial terms.
'We have had in-depth discussions with our partners and gained the support of our financial institutions. If these projects are implemented, we will enter into agreements with local contractors and suppliers to stimulate Kazakhstan's economy',
