Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the allocation of $541 mn as additional assistance for transatlantic security and Ukraine. He made this statement at the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.
"At the summit, the Prime Minister announced the allocation of $541 mn for new financing and projects to support Ukraine and strengthen transatlantic security. The new financial assistance to Ukraine is based on Canada's multilateral funding of over $8 billion, which it has provided since the beginning of 2022," the statement on the Canadian government's website said.
Prime Minister Trudeau announced an additional $2.7 mn in cyber security assistance for Ukraine to counter evolving cyber risks. Canada awarded a $450 mn contract to Thales Canada Inc. for five years to support the CAF's Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels fleet. At the summit, Canada and other NATO member states signed the founding document of the new NATO Climate Change and Security Centre of Excellence, led by Canada and located in Montreal. The Vilnius Summit Communiqué reaffirmed transatlantic unity and solidarity in safeguarding freedom and security worldwide.
It is noted that the Canada will continue to supply Ukraine with military equipment and organize military exercises necessary for defense.
