The press service of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment reports that a group of 20 assistant governors from Uzbekistan has embarked on a trip to China with the purpose of learning from their experience.
The objective of their visit is to undergo a two-week training program conducted by experts in the field of "Poverty reduction based on the Chinese experience."
In light of this initiative, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Uzbekistan's Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Employment and the International Center for Poverty Alleviation of China. This memorandum outlines the agreement to enable a total of 200 assistant governors to study and gain insights from the Chinese experience by the end of this year.
The Chinese Strategy of Poverty Alleviation
The Chinese government has its unique method of combating poverty and as a post-Soviet country, this method can be implemented in Uzbekistan without many problems. The strategy focuses on the provision of food, quality housing, medical care, and education, as well as repairing the roads to all layers of society.
Medical care and education are free, while 9-year education is also compulsory. The houses were also renovated at the expense of the government.
It also helped that they drew the poverty line to determine the number of citizens below that rate. Now, the poverty line in China equals approximately $560/year, and per reports, there are no citizens in China below that line of yearly income.
