Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan discussed at a high level the promotion of joint projects in the trade, economic, transport and communication, and energy sectors.
According to the press service of Uzbelkistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov the day before.
The meeting was held in Baku (Azerbaijan), where the two heads of state were on a working visit to attend a plenary session of the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Earlier it was reported that the two countries are interested in implementing joint projects in textile, pharmaceuticals, construction materials areas, and agro-industry.
In addition, Uzbekistan has expressed readiness to help Turkmenistan jointly launch a production line of vehicles with a capacity of up to 10-50 thousand units per year.
"Uzavtosanoat", the largest car manufacturer in the Central Asian region has inked a relevant agreement with "Turkmenistan-Motors".
Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade reported in September 2022 that an agreement with Turkmenistan would bring mutual trade to $2bn.
Turkmenistan sells gas, electricity, oil products, polymers, and cotton yarn and buys mineral fertilizers, vegetables, transport, and construction materials. Uzbekistan's total trade with Turkmenistan in 2022 was $927mn, up from $274mn in 2018.
