The Gofur Ghulom Publishing House has presented a new 4-volume "Al-Qomus" - a new Arabic-Uzbek encyclopedic dictionary that contains words translated from Arabic into Uzbek at the National Press Center.
The scientists headed by an academician, doctor of philological sciences, and professor Nematullo Ibragimov had worked hard for 11 years to produce a glossary containing more than 100,000 entries and phrases. They have tried to cover the Arabic language from the classical period to the present day, referring to the natural and human sciences, religious sources, literary language, various dialects, and media and colloquial languages. The glossary boasts expressions, proverbs, examples of poetry and prose, and verses from the Qur'an and Hadiths that are the charms of any language.
According to Zohidullo Munavvarov, a professor at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and an orientalist, the dictionary contains fundamental lexical interpretations of the Uzbek language, covering more than 100,000 words and phrases.
"We would like to draw your attention to another important issue related to the new dictionary. International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, National University of Uzbekistan, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature and other related universities. Other specialists will be trained. The effectiveness of their work depends, first of all, on the ability to read and understand the original sources in Arabic and local languages written in the Arabic alphabet. Therefore, in addition to the old Uzbek script based on the Arabic alphabet, students studying in this field are taught Arabic and Persian. One of the factors complicating this activity was the lack of appropriate textbooks, including the lack of a perfect Arabic-Uzbek dictionary. The dictionary we have will definitely fill this gap", Munavarrov said.
You can buy Al-Qomus dictionary, considered a great event in lexicography, in the shops of Gafur Ghulam Publishing House.
