Uzbekistan provided Kazakhstan with 3.9 bn cubic metres of water via the Syr Darya river since April 1, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reports. This delivery surpasses the initial agreement, which was set at 3.7 bn cubic metres for six months. Uzbekistan has completed this delivery ahead of schedule, fulfilling its commitment within 4M24.
By the end of the current irrigation period, Uzbekistan is expected to send an additional 1 bn cubic metres of water to Kazakhstan. This additional supply is aimed at meeting the irrigation needs of farmers in southern Kazakhstan.
The Shardara Reservoir currently holds 2.6 bn cubic metres of water, an increase of 689 mn cubic metres compared to the previous year. To date, the reservoir has received a total of 3.9 bn cubic metres.
Water distribution from the Shardara Reservoir includes 3.6 bn cubic metres sent downstream along the Syr Darya river. This figure represents a 950 mn cubic metres increase over last year. The distribution also involves over 700 mn cubic metres directed into the Kyzylkum Canal and more than 400 mn cubic metres flowing into the Northern Aral Sea.
