As part of the state visit to Kazakhstan by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov engaged in discussions with prominent Chinese corporations aimed at enhancing water management and infrastructure development in Kazakhstan.
Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov commenced his series of meetings with Vice-President Jiang Yigao of China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC), a company operational in Kazakhstan since 2017. Currently undertaking five major projects in Kazakhstan, including the reconstruction of irrigation canals and drainage systems in the Zhambyl region, CCECC expressed keen interest in advancing digitalization and automation within Kazakhstan's water sector. Discussions centered on leveraging digital technologies to optimize water distribution based on agricultural needs, climate conditions, and geographical factors.
"Digital technologies have the potential to significantly enhance the efficiency of water management systems, ensuring precise and timely water distribution. By pooling our efforts, resources, and expertise, we can achieve our shared objectives," remarked Minister Nurzhigitov.
Following this, the Minister met with President Jianqiang Yang of CITIC Construction to explore the implementation of water-saving technologies. CITIC Construction affirmed its readiness to establish production facilities for water-saving systems within Kazakhstan. Minister Nurzhigitov outlined plans for constructing new reservoirs, alongside the modernization of irrigation systems in the Almaty and Zhetysu regions.
In another crucial meeting, Minister Nurzhigitov discussed collaboration on advanced training courses for Kazakh water management specialists with Vice-President Tan Xiaofeng of Power China. An agreement was reached for Kazakh specialists to undergo specialized training in China, aiming to enhance local expertise in water resource management. Additionally, discussions were initiated regarding Power China's potential involvement in constructing new reservoirs in Kazakhstan.
"Power China has a longstanding successful presence in Kazakhstan, having executed numerous large-scale projects. We look forward to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships," noted Minister Nurzhigitov, proposing the formation of a consortium involving the Kazakh Research Institute of Water Management to bolster scientific support for joint projects.
The minister also held talks with Lyu Ze Xiang, Chairman of the Board of China Energy International Group, focusing on the development of hydroelectric power plants on Kazakhstan's reservoirs. Chinese Energy International Group expressed interest in the project, signaling intentions to participate in digitalization initiatives and wastewater treatment projects within Kazakhstan.
