Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov met with Wizz Air CEO József Váradi and Hungarian Ambassador to Uzbekistan József Rózsa to discuss expanding Wizz Air’s flight network from Uzbekistan to Europe and increasing transit routes through the country.

Váradi expressed Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s interest in boosting flights on the Tashkent-Abu Dhabi-Tashkent route and launching new services to Namangan and Urgench. He also highlighted the potential for establishing a joint airline in Uzbekistan in collaboration with Wizz Air.
Makhkamov proposed launching direct flights between Uzbekistan and Hungary, suggesting the introduction of a regular Tashkent-Budapest route by the end of the year.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi began operating flights to Uzbekistan in 2022, initially receiving permission for routes connecting Abu Dhabi with Tashkent and Samarkand.
In June 2023, officials from the Bukhara region invited Wizz Air Abu Dhabi to consider launching direct flights to Bukhara, a proposal that was supported by the airline’s commercial manager.
Established in 2003, Wizz Air has become a key competitor in the European aviation industry, operating a fleet of 206 Airbus aircraft in 2024.
