The European Union has introduced its 15th package of economic and individual sanctions targeting Russia. The measures, published in the EU's official journal, include restrictions on 54 individuals and 30 legal entities.
The Russian developer PIK is also included in the sanctions. The EU claims PIK financed recruitment for Russian military units and private military companies and contributes to an economy that serves as a significant income source for Russia. The sanctions extend to Alabuga, another Russian company.
For the first time, the sanctions address individuals involved in "Russia's destabilizing actions abroad." Sixteen individuals and three organizations are listed, including Tina Kandelaki, Deputy CEO of Gazprom-Media.
The EU has also imposed sanctions on seven Chinese entities and individuals for allegedly supplying drone components and microelectronics to the Russian military or assisting in circumventing sanctions. These measures include export controls, travel bans, and asset freezes.
Additionally, two high-ranking North Korean officials have been sanctioned.
The sanctions list features executives from major Russian corporations, including Vyacheslav Petushenko of Avtodor, Nikolai Kolesov of Russian Helicopters, and various CEOs of Gazprom subsidiaries and contractors, such as Nikolai Tkachenko, Yuri Shamalov, Ivan Kozhevnikov, and Alexei Kakhidze.
Preparations for a 16th sanctions package are already underway, with its adoption expected in January 2025.
