The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, participated in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in Moscow on October 7. The meeting served as a precursor to the upcoming CIS summit scheduled for October 8.
During the meeting, Minister Saidov emphasized the historical ties that bind the CIS member states, stating, “All the countries of the Commonwealth have long-standing historical ties that serve as a strong foundation that unites each other. Nevertheless, we see ample opportunities for further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas, especially in increasing economic cooperation.”
Key topics discussed included strengthening transport connectivity, creating favorable conditions for trade, and addressing escalating global conflicts. The ministers acknowledged the necessity of joining forces to promote peace and prosperity while tackling current regional and global issues.
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Moscow on the same day, ready to engage in the key events of the CIS summit.
According to information from the CIS Executive Committee, the summit will address vital topics such as enhancing cooperation within the Commonwealth, issuing an appeal to the peoples of CIS countries and the global community in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in 1941–1945, and discussing the activities of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to strengthen integration efforts.
The heads of state are expected to sign agreements designating the cultural capitals of the Commonwealth for the next three years, as well as amend several documents related to legal cooperation and security.
The previous CIS summit, held on October 13 in Kyrgyzstan's capital, featured President Mirziyoyev presenting initiatives aimed at enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation within the Commonwealth. During that summit, he was awarded the CIS Badge of Honor.
As the CIS continues to navigate complex challenges, the focus remains on developing multilateral cooperation and addressing pressing issues to benefit member states.
