The World Justice Project has published its 2023 rankings of countries based on the rule of law, evaluating 142 nations using eight key indicators. These indicators assess constraints on government powers, the absence of corruption, open government practices, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice. The top three positions in the rankings are held by Denmark, Norway, and Finland.
Among Central Asian nations, Kazakhstan achieved the highest ranking, placing 65th overall. The country showed improvements in various categories, including corruption, order and security, and civil justice. Uzbekistan follows closely in 78th place, with particularly strong indicators for order and security, ranking 17th in that specific category, alongside positive assessments regarding corruption levels. Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have advanced by 2 points compared to their standings from the previous year.
In contrast, Kyrgyzstan experienced a slight decline, dropping one position to 103rd in the overall rankings. Notably, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were not included in this year's assessments.
