Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are actively working to improve support systems for women and children returning from conflict zones such as Iraq and Syria, UNICEF Uzbekistan reports. Recently, delegations from these nations convened for a sub-regional meeting to exchange experiences, review lessons learned, and develop joint solutions.
These initiatives aim to provide repatriated women and children with essential assistance and services to facilitate their successful integration into society. This effort involves enhancing support mechanisms and ensuring returning individuals receive the necessary help to adapt and thrive.
These collaborative efforts are backed by the European Union through the project "The Second Phase of EU-UN Support to the States in Central Asia for Their Citizens Returned from Conflict Zones, Primarily Syria and Iraq." This project is designed to bolster the capacity of Central Asian countries to manage and support the reintegration of their citizens returning from conflict-affected regions.
