Kazakhstan's Anti-Corruption Agency announced the recovery of assets exceeding KZT 1 trillion (over $2bn) as part of its ongoing efforts. Since the beginning of 2024, approximately KZT 195bn ($406.3mn) has been recovered through completed criminal cases, highlighting the agency's commitment to combating corruption. Over the last 2.5 years, the agency has successfully returned KZT 1.1 trillion ($2.3bn) to the Kazakh people, including assets recovered from oligopolies.
Among the recovered assets are notable real estate properties. Satybaldyuly K., in a previous compensation agreement, returned several properties to the state. These include the "Kaisar Tower" business centre in Almaty, valued at over KZT 7.9bn ($16.7bn), which has been transferred to the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University. Additionally, an administrative building worth more than KZT 800mn ($1.7bn) was transferred to the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T.K. Zhurgenov.
In Astana, three mansions with a combined value exceeding KZT 5bn ($10.4mn) were handed over to the KSU "Cabinet of Psychological and Pedagogical Correction" to support children with disabilities.
The Anti-Corruption Agency emphasized the importance of international cooperation in asset recovery efforts. Kazakhstan has reclaimed assets from several countries, including Austria, France, Liechtenstein, the UAE, Turkey, and Russia. Specifically, KZT 36.8bn ($76.7mn) was returned from Austria, KZT 116.7bn ($243.1mn)from Liechtenstein, KZT 2.2bn ($4.6mn) from Turkey, and KZT 6.3bn ($13.1mn) from the UAE.
Meanwhile, the state secured ownership of the Shevchenkovskoye deposit in the Kostanay region, which contains large nickel and cobalt reserves valued at over KZT 5.6 trillion ($11.7bn). This asset was transferred to the state following the criminal case against former Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Toktabaev T., who was convicted of abuse of office.
