Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine (NMMC), the world's fourth-largest gold producer and Central Asia’s largest gold miner, is advancing its ambitious $1bn Investment Program aimed at boosting gold production through various strategic projects in 2024.
Major Investments and Key Projects
In the first half of 2024, NMMC has allocated $363.5mn towards the Investment Program, with progress made across all projects. Among the 11 projects planned for the year, a notable milestone was achieved this week with the launch of a seventh mill at Hydrometallurgical Plant No. 3 (HMP-3). This new addition has increased the plant’s gold-bearing ore processing capacity by 13%, raising it from eight million tons to nine million tons annually. The project, including the new mill, represents an investment of $281.1mn.
Expanding Capacity and Future Plans
The NMMC's ongoing efforts to expand its operations do not stop with the new mill. The company has laid out plans to further enhance production capabilities by expanding flotation, bio-oxidation, filtration, drying, and roasting workshops. These expansions are expected to increase the annual ore processing capacity to ten million tons by the end of the year.
Local Manufacturing and Construction
The commitment to supporting local industries is evident in NMMC’s approach to this project. The equipment and spare parts for the new milling block were produced locally at the Company’s Navoi Machine-Building Plant and Northern Mining Administration divisions. The construction work for the new mill was carried out by the Zarafshan Construction Administration, ensuring efficiency and timely completion of the project.
NMMC stands as the largest gold producer in Central Asia and the fourth-largest globally. The company is renowned for its comprehensive operations in mining, refining, and selling precious metals, primarily refined gold, which constitutes 99% of its output. NMMC’s extensive operations are spread across the Navoi, Samarkand, and Jizzakh regions of Uzbekistan.
The Muruntau-Myutenbai site, home to the world's largest open-pit mine, boasts a substantial resource base of 101 Moz. In total, NMMC’s mineral resources are estimated to hold 148 Moz of gold. The company operates 12 major mining sites, seven hydrometallurgical plants, and two heap leaching workshops.
