Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Digital Development will receive an extra $7 mn from the International Development Association (World Bank) for the Digital CASA project. The agreement was ratified by the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security, and Migration of the Kyrgyz Parliament in the second reading.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development Zamirbek Kozhomuratov stated that the IDA will provide an interest-free loan for 50 years, with a 10-year grace period. Kozhomuratov explained that the need for more funds arose because the project was planned for 2021, and requirements increased since then.
The additional funding will be used for the project's second phase, which includes establishing a state cloud storage. This platform will combine the information resources of all government agencies into a single centre for data storage and processing, ensuring secure and uninterrupted public service delivery.
The total project cost is $50 mn, with half of the funding provided by the World Bank as a grant.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) called on the World Bank to restart the unfinished work on the CASA-1000 project within Afghanistan. According to Hekmatullah Maiwandi, a spokesperson for DABS, the completion of this power project, which will channel electricity from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan, is expected to generate $70 mn.
