The Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia has expressed its intention to accept more than 5,000 legal migrants from Uzbekistan, as reported by the khokimiyat (city administration) of the Tashkent region.
A delegation from the Russian region visited Uzbekistan on June 3, to explore opportunities for streamlining labor migration. During their visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with regional administration officials regarding the attraction of workers.
The primary areas in which the Nizhny Novgorod region seeks labor are agriculture, construction, and industry. To entice migrants, the region plans to offer monthly salaries ranging from 50,000 to 70,000 rubles (equivalent to $563-$788).
In addition to competitive salaries, the host party emphasized its commitment to providing language and legal courses for prospective migrants. Moreover, comprehensive training programs will be available, including advanced training tailored to the needs of specific employers. As a testament to their commitment to collaboration, the regional Autonomous Nonprofit Organization (ANO) "Regional Personnel Agency" signed a memorandum of cooperation with the employment department of the Tashkent region. Both parties expressed keen interest in fostering long-term cooperation in the realm of legal labor migration.
Sherzod Asadov, the press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan, shared insights with the Sevimli TV channel, revealing that the current number of Uzbek citizens working in Russia stands at approximately 1 mn. This figure represents a notable decline from previous years, particularly before 2016, when the number ranged between 4-6 mn.
