Uzbekistan judo team representative Diyora Keldiyorova secured a silver medal at the 37th World Championships held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, as it was confirmed by the National Olympic Committee's press service on May 19.
Competing in the up to 52 kg weight category, Keldiyorova faced off against Italy's Odette Giuffrida, a two-time Olympic medalist, in the championship title bout. Ultimately, Keldiyorova fell short of clinching the gold medal, settling for second place.
This commendable performance earned Keldiyorova 1,400 points in both her world and Olympic rankings.
This is not the first time Keldiyorova has made her mark on the global judo stage. In 2023, she also secured a silver medal at the World Championships held in Doha, Qatar, making her the first judoka from Uzbekistan to achieve such a feat at the world championship level.
