Uzbekistan saw a notable influx in foreign visitors for commercial purposes during 2M24, with 16,900 international guests marking an increase from the same period last year by 11,500 individuals or 3-fold, the State Statistics Agency reports.
The primary countries from which commercial visitors traveled to Uzbekistan:
- Turkmenistan: 12,013 visitors
- Tajikistan: 2,937 visitors
- Afghanistan: 582 visitors
- China: 260 visitors
- Turkey: 243 visitors
- India: 167 visitors
- South Korea: 133 visitors
- Kyrgyzstan: 101 visitors
- Iran: 65 visitors
- USA: 61 visitors
These figures illustrate Uzbekistan's role as a destination for business and commerce in the region.
The tourism sector of Uzbekistan also showed significant growth in the first two months of 2024, with tourist arrivals totaling 974,200, an increase of 11.9% from the previous year. The largest number of tourists came from Tajikistan (363,300), followed by Kyrgyzstan (291,100) and Kazakhstan (155,900). Meanwhile, tourist numbers from China, South Korea, and Belarus were relatively lower, with 5,500, 5,400, and 2,200 visitors respectively.
Uzbekistan has set a target to attract 10 mn tourists within the year. By October 2023, the country had already attracted investments worth $1 bn into its tourism sector. This investment is aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and services, supporting the goal to make Uzbekistan a more prominent destination for both commercial and leisure travel.
