The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic hosted a gathering on March 2 presided over by Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev to discuss the ongoing progress of the construction of large HPPs in the country, the ministry's press service reports.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Dominique Favret, the Executive Director of the World Bank, and Mr. Olivier Bangerter, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic. The leadership of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic also participated in the discussions.
Priorities of Economic Policy
Minister Amangeldiev provided insights into the primary focus areas of the Kyrgyz Republic's economic policy geared towards fostering economic growth. He expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its continued support in the socio-economic development of the country.
Emphasis on Large Energy Projects
Strategic projects aimed at constructing large hydroelectric power plants were identified as highly promising for investment. These initiatives are envisaged to enhance the efficient utilization of water and energy resources, including renewable energy sources. Notably, Minister Amangeldiev underscored the importance of advancing major energy ventures such as the "Construction of Kambarata HPP - 1" and "CASA-1000".
Commitment from the World Bank
In response, Mr. Dominique Favret affirmed the World Bank's commitment to supporting priority projects, particularly in the energy sector. He also highlighted the upcoming Energy Forum, slated to be organized with the World Bank Group's assistance in May this year.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to fostering collaboration across key industries to drive sustainable development and economic growth in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Currently, Kyrgyzstan is benefiting from the implementation of 33 projects valued at $993.2mn, facilitated through the World Bank.
