In 2023, Uzbekistan saw an increase in car production, with a rise of 27.4% compared to the previous year. A total of 418,000 passenger cars were manufactured, marking a quarter increase in production. The Chevrolet Cobalt emerged as the most produced model with 118,000 units, marking a 16.1% increase from the previous year. Following closely were the Damas and Lacetti-Gentra models, with production numbers reaching nearly 90,000 and 82,1000 units respectively.
The National Statistics Agency reported a 10% increase in the number of personal cars in Uzbekistan at the end of last year. As of January 1, 2024, the number of private cars stood at 4.02 mn units. Light vehicles accounted for the majority, with 3.75 mn units, marking a 10.6% increase.
The number of lorries also saw a rise, reaching 240,000 units, a 9.5% increase. The report also noted an increase in the number of minibuses, buses, and specialised vehicles, exceeding 20,000 units.
Last year, Uzbekistan saw a fivefold increase in the import of Chinese cars, reaching 58,000 vehicles. Consequently, China’s share in total car imports rose from 36.8% to 79.3%. Meanwhile, imports of cars from Russia and Kazakhstan virtually came to a halt.
