US authorities have made alarming claims, asserting that the Taliban is covertly seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, with North Korea allegedly being a potential source, Tasnimg reports.
The matter was brought to attention during a meeting of the foreign relations committee members of the US House of Representatives. A Republican member of the Foreign Relations Committee expressed concerns over the Taliban's alleged attempts to obtain nuclear weapons, implicating both Pakistan and North Korea in the process.
As per the committee member, the Taliban government purportedly dispatched a delegation to North Korea, engaging in discussions related to nuclear weapons technology and forging arms connections with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Responding to these assertions, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban government, refuted the claims. Mujahid stated that Kabul has not engaged in any discussions with other countries regarding the acquisition of weapons. He emphasized that the Taliban forces possess sufficient equipment, dismissing the allegations of seeking nuclear weapons as baseless.
Earlier, it was reported that Afghanistan, under the Taliban regime, has announced ambitious plans to construct a hydroelectric dam on the Kunar River. This decision has significantly escalated tensions with Pakistan, a neighboring country that relies heavily on river water originating from Afghanistan.
