In a recent development, Gairat Ganievich Fozilov, the newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium, arrived in Brussels on December 5, as reported by Dunyo news agency. Fozilov brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to his new role, having served in various capacities in the realm of international relations.
Born on August 14, 1974, in Tashkent, Fozilov embarked on his diplomatic journey with a solid academic foundation. In 1996, he graduated from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, followed by further studies at the Higher School of Strategic Analysis and Forecasting in 2005.
Fozilov's diplomatic career commenced as an attaché of the Office for Cooperation with European Countries. Over the years, he demonstrated his capabilities by holding diverse roles in the central apparatus, the National Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan, and diplomatic missions in France, Belgium, and the Mission to NATO.
Notably, Fozilov served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2017. His international representation included a term as Ambassador to Japan from 2018 to 2021. Following this, he assumed the position of Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2021 until his recent appointment as the Ambassador to Belgium.
Gairat Fozilov takes over the role from Dilyor Khakimov, who served as the Ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, as well as the head of the missions of Uzbekistan to the European Union and NATO with residence in Brussels since 2017.
