    Uzbekistan-Belarus Business Forum 2023: $100bn investment opportunities explored

    Uzbekistan-Belarus Business Forum convened on December 5, marking a significant stride towards enhanced economic collaboration between Uzbekistan and Belarus. With over two hundred representatives from the business communities of both nations in attendance, the forum became a dynamic platform for fostering strategic ties and exploring avenues of mutual growth, the Government portal of Uzbekistan reported.

    Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov of Uzbekistan and Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko of Belarus took the stage to address the forum, emphasizing the strengthening ties and mutual commitment to fostering economic growth and cooperation between the two nations.

    The discussions at the forum highlighted the ambitious goals outlined in Uzbekistan's "Uzbekistan - 2030" strategy, initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The strategy aims to propel Uzbekistan towards sustainable economic growth, positioning the country among those with above-average income levels. Key objectives include developing responsive educational and healthcare systems, ensuring environmental sustainability, and establishing a fair and modern state that prioritizes the well-being of its citizens.

    To achieve these goals, Uzbekistan plans to attract foreign investment of over $100bn into the country's economy. The Uzbek government has already created favorable conditions for the implementation of joint projects across various sectors, including industry, energy, transport, construction, and agriculture.

    Acknowledging the pivotal role of political will, the leaders commended the efforts of President Mirziyoyev and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus in elevating cooperation between the two nations to new heights. The leaders also highlighted the rapidly growing indicators of mutual trade, with trade volume exceeding $500mn in the first ten months of the year.

    Despite the success achieved so far, both sides recognized the untapped potential for collaboration in various sectors, including culture, education, healthcare, cinematography, and sports. The forum emphasized that the ongoing and successful implementation of joint projects would be a catalyst for consistent development in economic and investment cooperation.

    The leaders underscored the importance of expanding industrial collaboration in key sectors such as mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, chemistry, and electrical engineering. Furthermore, the continuation of cooperation in the field of IT technologies was identified as a crucial aspect of fostering innovation and technological advancement.

    The Uzbekistan-Belarus Business Forum concluded with a shared commitment to building on the existing momentum, fostering deeper ties, and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
