On November 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation from Saudi Arabia, led by Khalid al-Falikh, the head of the Investment Ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting focused on the expansion of Uzbek-Saudi cooperation and full-scale partnership, as well as the practical realization of agreements made at the highest level.
President Mirziyoyev conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince, Prime Minister Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud. He expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of mutually beneficial cooperation in recent years.
The meeting highlighted the growth in mutual trade and the volume of Saudi direct investment in Uzbekistan’s economy, particularly in the sphere of “green” energy. The frequency of direct flights between the two countries is also increasing.
With the support of the Saudi Development Fund, a number of socially significant projects in the fields of healthcare, education, water supply, and other areas are being implemented. A joint fund is being established to expand economic opportunities in Uzbekistan.
During the visit of the Saudi delegation, agreements were signed for the implementation of mutual projects in the chemical, energy, agricultural, pharmaceutical, IT, and infrastructure development sectors, amounting to $12 bn.
The importance of accelerating the implementation of large energy projects in various regions of Uzbekistan was underlined. New projects and programs totalling $11 bn in the areas of transport infrastructure, communal economy, geology, irrigation, waste processing, higher education, and labour migration were also agreed upon.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the fruitful partnership with ACWA Power, a major investor and strategic partner in the development of “green” energy in Uzbekistan. The company is currently implementing projects worth $7.5 bn.
The President welcomed the commencement of operations of a modern thermal power plant with a capacity of 1.5 GW in the Syrdarya region and the start of construction of a pilot production of “green water” in the Tashkent region.
In recognition of his significant contribution and comprehensive support for the development of multi-faceted and mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, Minister Khalid al-Falikh was awarded the “Dostlik” Order during the ceremony.
