In a stride towards enhancing the education system in Uzbekistan, First Deputy Minister Dr. Komiljon Karimov held a pivotal meeting with the President of the University of Westminster (London), Dr. Peter Bonfield. The meeting focused on fortifying the ongoing collaboration between the Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) and its British counterpart, with an emphasis on incorporating the best practices from the United Kingdom into Uzbekistan's higher education system.
Discussions revolved around the current activities of WIUT and strategies for further improvement. Dr. Bonfield conveyed his positive impressions from the recent graduation ceremony at WIUT, highlighting the success of graduates who have gone on to make significant contributions in various sectors within the country. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that graduates find their rightful place in the labor market, reflecting the commitment of the University of Westminster to producing highly skilled and employable individuals.
In the 2022/2023 academic year, WIUT celebrated the graduation of 1200 students who received diplomas from the University of Westminster, London. The success stories of these graduates further underscored the impact of the collaborative efforts between the two institutions.
Dr. Karimov outlined promising areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the University of Westminster, including seeking expertise to enhance the rankings of Uzbekistan's universities and facilitating collaborative projects between British and Uzbek universities. Notably, the success of the Uzbek-British Universities Forum held at WIUT on March 2-3 this year led to the decision to organize a follow-up event in 2024.
The University of Westminster's recent achievement of a "Silver" rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, a national scheme administered by the UK's Department for Education, adds further credibility to its commitment to delivering high-quality education. This rating serves as an endorsement of the university's excellence in teaching and is expected to contribute significantly to the enhancement of educational standards at WIUT.
