Gas supply increases are contingent upon Uzbekistan's demands, as per the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to Almasadam Satkaliyev, the head of the ministry, Kazakhstan and Gazprom inked a cooperative agreement on gas transit obligations.
The recently signed agreement pertains to the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. Satkaliyev highlighted the establishment of mutual obligations between the parties regarding Russian gas transit, following the launch of Kazakhstan's gas transportation system.
By the end of 2023, it is anticipated that the volume of Russian gas transiting to Uzbekistan will amount to at least 800 mn cubic meters. Currently, the annual supply stands at approximately 2.8bn cubic meters.
According to the agreement between UzGasTrade and Gazprom Export, up to 2.8bn cubic meters of gas will be annually delivered from Russia to Uzbekistan. The pipeline project known as the Central Asia-Center pipeline, launched on October 7 by Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, and Vladimir Putin, plays a crucial role in this gas supply.
Gazprom's head, Alexey Miller, has disclosed plans for a 15-year gas agreement between Uzbekistan and Russia, with the treaty expected to be signed by mid-2024.
