Tajikistan, a nation blessed with abundant natural resources and a commitment to sustainable development, showcased its green energy potential at the high-level panel "Green energy transition and green hydrogen" during the European Union Global Gateway Forum. The Tajik delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin, presented the country's ambitions and achievements in the realm of green energy and its critical role in the global transition to a sustainable future.
Minister Muhriddin emphasized the hydropower sector as a cornerstone of Tajikistan's "green transition" and a key source of green hydrogen production. With a firm commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices, Tajikistan has adopted a "Green Economy Strategy" that lays the groundwork for transitioning to a green economy. One of its ambitious targets is to double electricity production from renewable sources by 2050.
Muhriddin noted that Tajikistan has immense potential for green energy production, primarily through hydropower resources. The minister recognized the significance of clean energy in addressing global climate challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Tajikistan's hydropower potential is a valuable asset in the region, with its mountainous terrain and numerous rivers providing the ideal conditions for harnessing clean energy. The country has already made significant progress in expanding its hydropower capacity and integrating it into the national grid.
Furthermore, Minister Muhriddin highlighted that Tajikistan is not only committed to its own green energy goals but also has critical raw materials and resources that can benefit industrialized countries. He urged cooperation partners and financial institutions to explore the opportunities available in Tajikistan and engage in mutually beneficial collaborations.
The Global Gateway Forum, hosted by the European Union, is a platform where representatives from countries worldwide engage in discussions on various aspects of sustainable development. These discussions cover topics ranging from green energy transition and renewable energy production to the development of efficient transport corridors, as well as initiatives in education, research, and healthcare.
