The Taliban reportedly attacked a dormitory at Faryab University in the Faryab region of Afghanistan, where they shaved the heads of 29 students. The reason for this barbaric act, according to sources among the students, was their alleged involvement in playing music, Daryo correspondent in Afghanistan reported.
The incident unfolded during the night when armed individuals affiliated with the Taliban stormed the university's dormitory. They forcefully detained and subsequently shaved the heads of 29 students who were accused of playing music, an activity deemed prohibited by the Taliban's interpretation of Islamic law.
Sources revealed that the students were held in detention for approximately 24 hours before being released. However, even after their release, the Taliban imposed restrictions on these students, prohibiting them from entering the university dormitories. This restriction places an additional burden on the affected students, as it impacts their ability to continue their education.
The incident highlights the increasing concerns about the Taliban's approach to enforcing their version of Islamic law and suppressing cultural and recreational activities. Music, particularly in public or educational settings, has become a flashpoint for conflict between the fundamentalist group and the aspirations of Afghan citizens for personal freedoms and cultural expression.
Earlier Daryo reported that Taliban's Ministry burned musical instruments, enforcing music ban in Afghanistan.
