In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is planning a visit to Russia for discussions with Vladimir Putin, according to American officials cited by The New York Times. The talks are set to take place during the Eastern Economic Forum from September 10 to 13, held at the Far Eastern Federal University campus in Vladivostok.
Kim Jong-un is expected to travel to Russia on his armored train from Pyongyang and may also consider a visit to Moscow. The primary agenda for their meeting includes discussions on the supply of artillery ammunition and anti-tank missiles from North Korea. In return, Kim Jong-un is hopeful that Russia will offer North Korea food assistance and advanced satellite and nuclear submarine technology, as indicated by American officials.
According to Meduza, American intelligence has previously reported active negotiations between Russia and North Korea regarding the supply of weaponry that the Russian military could potentially employ in the Ukraine conflict. In July, North Korean Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu paid an official visit to Russia, which U.S. intelligence interpreted as preparations for these negotiations.
