Ed Sheeran fans experienced a night of distress and medical emergencies during the singer's concert in Pittsburgh on July 8. According to the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS, a total of 17 individuals were transported to the hospital due to various health issues that arose during the event.
The Pittsburgh EMS reported that the majority of the hospitalizations were a result of heat-related incidents, likely due to the high humidity and warm temperatures. Additionally, a few fans suffered falls, while one person experienced a seizure. Two individuals went into cardiac arrest, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The first cardiac arrest occurred when a worker involved in dismantling the concert setup inside Acrisure Stadium collapsed on the floor. Prompt medical attention was provided, and the worker was transported to a nearby hospital. The second cardiac arrest took place outside the stadium after a paramedic from an external agency had left the venue. Fortunately, the patient was successfully resuscitated after receiving multiple shocks and was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Pittsburgh EMS received a total of 37 calls for service related to the concert, highlighting the magnitude of the medical emergencies that arose during the event. While the planet is currently grappling with record-breaking heatwaves, Pittsburgh experienced normal seasonal heat during the concert, as confirmed by CNN Weather.
Representatives for Ed Sheeran were contacted by reporters for comment on the incident, but no response has been provided thus far.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Ed Sheeran delivered a remarkable performance for the massive crowd at Acrisure Stadium. The concert featured a unique in-the-round stage design, with Sheeran standing on a rotating platform that spun him around clockwise throughout the show.
