A deputy in Kyrgyzstan stated that the price of air tickets in Uzbekistan is considerably cheaper than in Kyrgyzstan, 24.kg reported.
In a recent session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Omurbek Bakirov of Kyrgyzstan made a noteworthy statement, highlighting the significant price difference between air tickets in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Bakirov raised concerns about the high cost of domestic flights for the population of the country.
Deputy Bakirov specifically pointed out that a ticket for the popular Bishkek-Osh route in Kyrgyzstan costs approximately $44.57. In contrast, he revealed that domestic flight tickets in Uzbekistan are remarkably cheaper, ranging from $8 to $20. He further compared international routes, stating that a ticket from Tashkent to Abu Dhabi costs $22, while a flight from Bishkek to Abu Dhabi is priced at $49. This stark difference in airfare surprised Bakirov, emphasizing that it is actually cheaper to travel to Abu Dhabi from Bishkek than to Osh within Kyrgyzstan.
Furthermore, he mentioned that due to frequent unfortunate incidents on the roads, people are inclined to use air travel. Recognizing the importance of aviation accessibility for the population, especially during the tourist season, Deputy Bakirov proposed reducing flight prices to popular destinations such as Osh, Jalalabad, and Batken.
Bakirov expressed concerns about the monopoly held by a company.
"Due to the monopoly of a single company, air ticket prices are higher. However, aviation accessibility is not economically favorable for the population," said the deputy.
He argued that such a situation is not economically favorable for the population, highlighting the need for improved affordability and competition in the aviation sector.
The deputy's comments have brought attention to the issue of expensive domestic air travel in Kyrgyzstan compared to its neighboring countries. As the government seeks to promote tourism and facilitate transportation for its citizens, it is expected that these concerns will be further discussed and measures will be taken to address the affordability of air travel within the country
