Contracts totaling $296mn were inked by the government of Uzbekistan and the World Bank to improve energy efficiency and rehabilitate damaged forest areas in Uzbekistan, the World Bank's representative office in Uzbekistan reports to "Daryo".
Uzbekistan will be granted a $143mn preferential loan to support the energy efficiency program in public buildings, and also to establish a legislative and administrative structure to encourage sustainable energy investment in the construction industry. In addition, Uzbekistan will receive a $142mn concessional loan to enhance landscape stability and rehabilitate forests across the nation.
The funding will also be used to strengthen bilateral collaboration between Uzbekistan and other Central Asian nations in the recovery of transboundary environmental zones. In addition, the concerns will get an extra $11mn in grant funds. The International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group, will offer the Uzbek government preferential funding for such initiatives at a low-interest rate for 30 years, with a five-year grace period.
