The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a loan of $199.9 million to Uzbekistan for the improvement of irrigation systems in the regions of the Ferghana Valley. Modern energy-efficient pumping units will be installed in the Andijan, Namangan and Fergana regions. The Bank’s website states.
According to the information, the funds will help modernize 118 outdated pumping stations built during the Soviet era. Modern energy-efficient pumping units will be installed in the regions.
The project will help reduce annual electricity consumption by 277 thousand MW and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 129 thousand tons.
The European financial institution believes that Uzbekistan's Water Management Sector Development Concept for 2020-30 is aligned with commitments under the Paris Agreement.
