Thailand to intensify screening at airports as XBB strain of Covid-19 emerges
Authorities are intensifying Covid-19 screening in Thai airports after the virus's 'highly immune-evasive' XBB strain was detected in the country.
The Thai health ministry issued the directive following two passengers testing positive for the rapidly spreading variant.
The World Health Organization said XBB - an offshoot of the Omicron strain - has shown immunity to current vaccines and is the most evasive Covid variant to date.
It has already been found in at least 26 countries, the organisation said.
