President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution, outlining measures to prepare for and host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be jointly organized by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
The resolution designates the high-level organization of the tournament as a priority task for state authorities. Preparations will focus on meeting FIFA infrastructure standards, ensuring suitable conditions for teams, officials, and spectators, and coordinating logistical and operational requirements associated with hosting an international sporting event.
The document notes that on October 2, 2025, the FIFA Council officially decided to award the hosting rights for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup to Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. In line with this decision, the composition of the national Organizing Committee and a comprehensive program of preparatory measures were approved.
The Organizing Committee has been tasked with coordinating the work of relevant government bodies throughout the preparation and staging of the tournament. Its responsibilities include upgrading stadiums and training facilities to FIFA standards, organizing transport and accommodation, facilitating visa procedures, ensuring medical services, and managing volunteer programs. The committee is also responsible for guaranteeing uninterrupted and backup electricity supplies in host regions, as well as ensuring the readiness of stadiums, training grounds, and hotels.
The resolution approves the projected costs of hosting the competition and identifies funding sources in a separate annex. It also provides for free access to public transport, including buses and metro services, for accredited participants and ticket-holding spectators during the tournament.
In addition, the resolution supports the establishment of a FIFA regional office for Central Asian countries in Tashkent. The office will be located at the headquarters of the Football Association of Uzbekistan and will be financed primarily through FIFA funds.
Specific responsibilities related to tournament preparation, infrastructure development, energy supply, and media coverage were assigned to the Football Association of Uzbekistan, the ministry of sports, the ministry of energy, and other relevant agencies. Oversight of the implementation of the resolution has been entrusted to the prime minister and the presidential representative for sports.
The 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and is regarded as one of FIFA’s most significant international tournaments after the senior World Cup for national teams.
