A passenger plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, as reported by Tengrinews.
The Azerbaijani agency APA reported that the plane carried 67 passengers and 5 crew members. After issuing a distress signal over the Caspian Sea, the aircraft diverted to Kazakhstan, attempting an emergency landing. According to Sputnik Azerbaijan, the airline suggests that the tragedy may have been caused by a collision with a flock of birds.
Following the crash, 52 personnel and 11 units of specialized equipment from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the site. A fire broke out after the plane went down, which rescue teams are actively working to extinguish.
Authorities are currently investigating the situation and are working to clarify the number of victims. Preliminary reports suggest there may be survivors, but this has not been confirmed.
The aircraft involved in the crash was operated by Azerbaijan Airlines. The airline confirmed the flight route and is cooperating with local authorities to determine the cause of the incident.
