President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has emphasized that Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a deliberate and strategic decision aligned with the country’s ongoing reforms. During a dialogue with Uzbek entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan's Nukus on August 20, he highlighted the importance of this step for the nation’s future economic development.
President Mirziyoyev underlined the necessity of embracing international standards to enhance the quality of products and services, thereby securing a competitive position in global markets. He asserted that the future of Uzbekistan lies in establishing a level playing field and pursuing an export-oriented industrial and trade policy.
If the republic does not become a member of the world's production chains, economic growth will not be as expected, he remarked.
Uzbek leader also highlighted the tangible benefits of WTO membership, including the potential to eliminate overpayments and ease restrictions on the international transit of goods. This move is seen as essential for Uzbekistan to integrate more effectively into the global economy.
Uzbekistan aims to complete the WTO accession process by the 2026 summit. The initiative has garnered support from key international partners, including the United States, Russia, Germany, Israel, and other nations.
