Kazakhistan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reviewed the socio-economic development of Turkestan region during a meeting with regional governor Nuralkhan Kusherov, who presented the region’s latest economic indicators and investment outlook.
According to Kusherov, the regional economy grew by 113.9%, while tax revenues to the state budget reached KZT 1tn ($2.2bn).
In 2025, the region attracted KZT 1.7tn ($3.7bn) in total investment, including KZT 1.4tn ($3.05bn) in private investment. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment reached $1.4bn.
The governor reported that 58 investment projects worth KZT 340bn ($740mn) were implemented last year, creating more than 8,000 jobs.
Turkestan region currently hosts 21 industrial zones, while 26 projects worth KZT 315bn ($685mn) are being implemented within the Turan Special Economic Zone.
The regional economy is also expanding through agricultural clusters focused on cotton-textile production, corn and meat processing. Once fully operational, these projects are expected to increase agricultural output by KZT 479.5bn ($1.04bn) by 2027.
Kusherov also reported improvements in social indicators. Over the past three years, the number of recipients of targeted social assistance in the region has been cut in half.
Employment programs covered 148,000 people, while the regional unemployment rate stood at 4.6%.
The governor additionally outlined ongoing development of schools, healthcare facilities, cultural institutions, road infrastructure, gas supply networks and drinking water systems across the region.
During the meeting, Tokayev instructed regional authorities to continue attracting investment and further develop agriculture and industry.
The president also emphasized the need to improve living standards, create new jobs and expand infrastructure, highlighting these priorities as key to the region’s sustainable development.
