Uzbekistan and the United States have held the first meeting of the US–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral economic and investment cooperation, according to Presidential Administration Head Saida Mirziyoyeva.

The meeting was attended by Sergio Gor, the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, who serves as co-chair of the Council. Discussions were described as constructive and forward-looking, focusing on areas of strategic importance for both countries.

“Significant and meaningful work lies ahead in key areas that are strategically important for both Uzbekistan and the United States,” Mirziyoyeva said following the meeting.

The Business and Investment Council was established under a presidential decree signed on November 12 by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The platform is designed to deepen dialogue between government institutions and the private sector, promote mutual investment, and advance joint business initiatives.

The launch of the Council underscores Uzbekistan’s efforts to institutionalize economic cooperation with the United States and create new mechanisms to support trade, investment, and long-term partnership.

Previous reports indicate that interest from US businesses in Uzbekistan has been growing. In 2024, a US State Department spokesperson said American companies were actively exploring opportunities in Uzbekistan, particularly in agriculture, livestock, technology, and industrial equipment, while noting that streamlining certification and import procedures could further support US exporters.

More recently, veteran American investor Jim Rogers shared that he had acquired shares in most companies listed on the Tashkent Stock Exchange, adding Uzbek assets to his portfolio. This move was widely seen as a signal of rising foreign investor confidence in Uzbekistan’s market.
