Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor has been appointed as the U.S. co-chair of the newly established U.S.–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, marking a step in expanding bilateral economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for American companies and workers.
Ambassador Gor will lead the U.S. side of the council alongside Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. His appointment reflects the U.S. administration’s commitment to strengthening America’s economic leadership in Central Asia and ensuring that international partnerships deliver tangible benefits for U.S. businesses.
The council will focus on expanding investment and export opportunities between the two countries, opening high-growth sectors, including information technology and digital innovation, to U.S. talent and technology. It also aims to promote a more level playing field for American exporters engaging with Uzbekistan’s rapidly evolving market.
The announcement follows President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Washington for the November 4–6 C5+1 Summit, which highlighted deepening momentum in U.S.–Uzbekistan relations. The new council is expected to build on this progress and strengthen strategic economic engagement in the region.
Ambassador Gor previously visited Uzbekistan in October, meeting with President Mirziyoyev, Chief of Staff Saida Mirziyoyeva, and other senior officials to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
Background on Sergio Gor
Sergio Gor was born Sergey Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent. His lawyer, Robert Garson, has confirmed his birth name. Gor’s family moved to the United States during his childhood, where he obtained U.S. citizenship and later built a career in politics and public affairs.
He served in the office of Republican Senator Rand Paul and in 2020 worked as chief of staff for President Donald Trump’s campaign finance committee. Gor is also the co-founder of Winning Team Publishing, a conservative publishing house established with Donald Trump Jr.
