Uzbekistan is taking steps to expand its export capabilities through the Aktau Sea port on the Caspian Sea, aiming to enhance container transportation and boost trade. Recently, a delegation from Uzbekistan engaged in talks with representatives of Kazakhstan's Aktau Sea Trade Port. The discussions focused on the port's current infrastructure, technical capabilities, and its role in facilitating Uzbek exports.
An agreement was signed during the meeting to foster mutually beneficial cooperation, emphasizing the development of joint projects aimed at streamlining the export and transit of goods.
The Aktau port continues to expand its infrastructure to accommodate growing demand. It plays a pivotal role in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), providing a direct link for Uzbek goods to reach international markets via Kazakhstan and Transcaucasian countries.
By the end of 2024, the transit flow through Aktau is projected to increase by over 5mn tons, with plans for further expansion in subsequent years. The port’s focus on container and transit transportation aligns with Uzbekistan's ambition to strengthen its trade network.
During the talks, the establishment of a joint trade and distribution center was proposed. This initiative aims to:
- Facilitate the entry of Uzbek products into the Kazakh market.
- Streamline the transit of goods to third countries.
- Enhance economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Mahmudjon Tohirov, representing Uzbekistan Railways' logistics and marketing department, highlighted the importance of the collaboration:
"This is a significant step toward strengthening trade ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The initiative paves the way for more integrated and efficient trade routes in Central Asia."
The Uzbek delegation also toured the Aktau Sea Port, where port officials demonstrated its advanced infrastructure and potential to serve as a regional trade hub.
