A modern cogeneration plant is currently being constructed in the Shon-Shuhrat neighborhood of the Almazor district in Tashkent. The project, spearheaded by "Issiqlik Elektr stansiyalari" (Thermal Power Station), will feature a cogeneration unit with an electricity production capacity of 1.2 MW and a thermal energy capacity of 6.4 gigacalorie (Gcal).
The initiative follows a successful pilot program that introduced cogeneration units in the Oktepa and Boghzor neighborhoods of the Chilonzor district. On October 13, 2023, during a visit to the facility, the president ordered the expansion of similar projects across the capital.
This new cogeneration plant is part of a broader government strategy outlined in a Cabinet of Ministers decision from January 13, 2023, which aims to enhance the efficiency of centralized heat supply enterprises in Tashkent.
The total cost of the cogeneration facility, covering an area of 0.16 hectares, is estimated at UZS 45.7bn ($3.6mn). The project is being executed in partnership with the Turkish company Iltekno, boasting an efficiency rate of over 80%.
Currently, around 50 workers from both local and foreign organizations are on-site, utilizing four specialized machines for construction. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce approximately 8mn kWh of electricity and 52,000 Gcal of heat energy annually. The implementation of advanced technologies is projected to save 1.2mn cubic meters of natural gas each year, significantly reducing pollutant emissions by 67%.
The construction site has completed the foundation work, and the installation of key equipment is underway. A gas-piston device imported from Germany, along with two Bosch boilers, will be part of the infrastructure. The thermal energy produced will be delivered to residents through a closed system, eliminating energy loss and ensuring reliable heating.
Upon completion, the cogeneration plant will provide stable thermal energy to 17 multi-story buildings, various social sector facilities, and over a thousand residential apartments in the region. The project is anticipated to create 15 new jobs for the local community.
The facility is scheduled to be operational by the end of this year, contributing to the city’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
