Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, Spokesperson for Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce, revealed that 121 factories were established across various sectors in 2024. In addition, 217 production machines have been imported by industrialists for use in the heavy, light, and primary sectors.
Jawad highlighted that in 2023, 614 factories were established, and 1,098 machines were imported. This data shows a notable increase in investment and production activities within the country.
The Afghanistan Chamber of Industries and Mines pointed out that providing more facilities for industrialists could lead to significant growth in domestic industries. Sakhi Ahmad Paiman, the first deputy of the Chamber, emphasized the importance of supporting heavy and light industries with energy supply, land distribution, and increased tariffs on similar imported goods.
Economic experts stressed the need for greater support for industrialists. Shakir Yaqubi, an economic analyst, suggested that grants, energy provisions, and small loans could significantly strengthen production factories. Shams Rahman Ahmadzai, another economic analyst, highlighted the issues related to land and electricity shortages faced by these factories.
More than 5,000 factories in various sectors are currently operating in 18 industrial parks across the country. This development is moving Afghanistan towards self-sufficiency and self-sufficiency in certain sectors.
