Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are actively assessing the progress of their latest collaborative endeavors. The discussions unfolded during a meeting between Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, and ADB's Director General of the Central and West Asia Department, Eugenue Zhukov.
The dialogue encompassed an array of sectors including transport, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and renewable energy sources. Both parties exchanged insights on the current state of their partnership and explored avenues for launching fresh initiatives in these crucial domains.
The enduring cooperation between Turkmenistan and ADB was stressed, particularly in the realms of transport, energy, and fostering private sector engagement and investment alliances. This reaffirmation reflects the commitment of both entities to mutual growth and development.
A focal point of the discussions was the forthcoming commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan's accession to the ADB in 2025. Joint preparatory efforts for this milestone event were deliberated, signifying the significance of the longstanding partnership between the two entities.
ADB's collaboration with Turkmenistan dates back to 2000, aiming to bolster the country's export markets and fortify regional connectivity. Notable contributions include facilitating Turkmen's electricity exports to Afghanistan and approving a substantial loan portfolio amounting to $125mn to support various developmental initiatives.
Moreover, Turkmenistan's participation in technical assistance projects under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program since 2010 further exemplifies the nation's commitment to fostering regional economic integration and sustainable development.
