The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have initiated a new project in Tajikistan, aimed at protecting the population against infectious disease outbreaks and other health emergencies, ASIA-Plus reported on May 16.
A press release issued by the WHO Office in Tajikistan on May 14 detailed the project's importance and highlighted the initial results observed during a joint visit to the National Research Institute for Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology in Dushanbe on May 8. This facility, one of the largest maternity hospitals in Tajikistan, showcased significant achievements in infection prevention and control, celebrated through theater and dance performances by health workers and development partners.
Dr. Rosa Nodirshoyeva led a tour of the maternity hospital, demonstrating the implementation of proper measures and techniques to prevent and control infections within the facility. These practices are vital for ensuring the safety of patients and health workers from healthcare-associated infections and for maintaining high-quality care standards.
Achievements and Future Goals
The advancements observed at the National Research Institute for Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology exemplify the effectiveness of the USAID-funded health security project. The project's primary objective is to fortify infection prevention and control protocols within healthcare settings, thereby reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections and improving overall patient care quality.
The visit and celebration at the maternity hospital highlight the collaborative efforts of international health organizations and local health systems to improve healthcare outcomes in Tajikistan. By focusing on infection prevention and control, the project aims to create a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers, ultimately contributing to the country's long-term health security.
