Uzbekistan plans to construct a 300 MW solar power plant and a 75 MW energy storage system in the Kashkadarya region. Following an international tender, Masdar, UAE's global renewables company, emerged as the winner. Consequently, it established a private partner in Uzbekistan - Nur Kashkadarya Solar PV. The project, backed by the International Finance Corporation, has government agreements and expects a $250.5 mn investment. This development was made public through a decree issued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It has established tariffs for energy use: 3 cents per 1 kWh for solar electricity and $6.33 per 1 MWh for the energy storage system.
Previously, it was announced that Masdar, UAE’s clean energy power plant, aims to enhance Uzbekistan’s energy sector with pumped storage hydroelectric power plants.
Uzbekhydroenergo, Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric power producer, and Masdar signed an agreement on March 13. The objective of the agreement is to evaluate the feasibility of various national hydroelectric power accumulation projects. It is anticipated that this collaboration would help Uzbekistan achieve its ambitious renewable energy target and handle supply-side challenges.
