On International Women's Day, a group of women gathered in Kabul to protest against oppression and rights violations, underscoring the urgent need for gender equality and justice in Afghanistan, Etilaatroz reports.
Advocacy Movement's Declaration
The protest, led by the "Afghanistan Women's Movement for Justice and Freedom", highlighted the plight of Afghan women who continue to face exclusion from social life and systemic oppression. Despite the challenges, members of the movement expressed a commitment to standing up against injustice and advocating for their rights.
In a statement issued by the movement, Afghan women were praised for their resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The declaration emphasized the role of women in challenging brutality and crime, particularly in the wake of the Taliban government's oppressive policies.
Call for International Recognition and Support
The movement called upon the United Nations and the international community to acknowledge the ongoing gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Additionally, they urged for a cessation of financial support to entities fueling Taliban atrocities and advocated for the designation of the Taliban as a terrorist group accountable for human rights violations.
Central to the movement's demands is the call for equal rights and participation of women in all aspects of society, including politics, economics, culture, and the arts. Afghan women aspire to break free from the constraints imposed by the Taliban regime and assert their fundamental rights to work, education, and freedom of movement.
Persistence in the Face of Adversity
Despite enduring severe restrictions for over two and a half years, Afghan women remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice and equality. The policy of the Taliban, characterized by gender apartheid, has galvanized women's rights activists to demand international recognition and support for their cause.
Earlier, it was reported that 2.3mn pregnant women in Afghanistan are suffering from malnutrition. In the Punjab district of Bamiyan region, approximately 40% of pregnant and lactating women and 45% of children under the age of five are malnourished.
